Emma Gilfillan ….. BA Hons Spatial Design, Architectural Technologist.

Who am I ? I’m an Architectural Technician and Spatial Designer by qualification. Having two Architects as tutors on the Spatial Design BA Course at Falmouth College of Arts was an inspiring start to launch my design career. I qualified in 2003 in Spatial Design and started to learn detailed design of buildings on the job! Fast forward …. how many years, a number of very varied architectural jobs and many projects of all sizes great and small.

In 2016 & 2017 I became a working mum, the challenges became real : to balance the richness of creativity for my work while also being a child entertainer! Bring on the beginning of EKL Design and working from the new Studio in the Garden. I so enjoy the challenges of new projects and it keeps me real, and funnily enough the children have enriched and enlivened my creativity skills again.

I have always loved my work and want to help you with your projects and dreams. I love my children and enjoy looking after them (after all I had them to be here and enjoy life!) So why not combine the two. This is why I decided to set up EKL Design.

The past involved listed building projects, private hospital refurbishments, new house design, household extensions, annexe buildings, offices and many other variations….and now I want to use this experience in helping you, the home owner, office owner, land owner, developer, in making you aspirations come true. (sounds a little cliche, but its true!)

While my family is at the center of the EKL Design culture, our children are currently 4 & 3 years old and help by behaving themselves, whether that’s while I work at home or by being sensible if they need to occasionally come out with me to visit!

They love a good on site learning – with a hammer or screwdriver … watch out!!

My husband is also on hand in the background with both sensible advice and by bringing my ideas back down to earth!
